Tokyo, February 5, 2014 — Fujitsu today announced the immediate availability of FUJITSU Media Solution ColorFit, software for the printing industry that automatically and instantly improves image quality.
Installed as a plug-in for Adobe® Photoshop®(1), ColorFit performs advanced feature analysis on images submitted digitally. To meet the high-quality requirements of the printing industry, it determines and instantly corrects color reproduction and gradation expressions in digital image data, taking into account backlighting, low key(2) effects, and skin tones to be balanced against the background.
This product is being exhibited at "page2014," running February 5 - 7, 2014 at the Sunshine City Convention Center in Tokyo.
In recent years, as the printing industry increasingly handles files in diverse digital formats, with smaller lot sizes and compressed turnaround times, there is a need to process digital images more quickly, less labor-intensively, and at a lower cost.
Building on technology developed by Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. that improves color reproduction, Fujitsu has developed ColorFit software that instantly optimizes images and improves their quality. Compared to the normal manual process of adjusting images by considering balance, this instant, automated process can dramatically shorten prepress time. The automated image-correction process can be further improved when combined with Fujitsu's color-management technology and image-optimization technology.
Product Features
1. Flexible processing responds to each image's particular requirements using scene analysis
This software instantly analyzes the image's scene for color balance, backlighting, "memory color" (such as for skin, sky, plants), and performs the necessary corrections automatically based on the image's features. It also detects human facial regions and reproduces natural skin tones, and also uses the skin as a reference point for the correction to be applied to the image as a whole. For example, it seeks to achieve a good color balance between people and a background sky.
2. Extensive control over processing functions
The software runs as an Adobe Photoshop plug-in and can also be recorded as a Photoshop action(3). In addition, individual functions can be activated selectively (to compensate for backlighting and color balance, for example) and quality adjustments can also be made.
3. Extensive processing functions
The software includes the following processing functions to optimize image quality, all linked to the scene-analysis function.
- Gradation correction (highlight/shadow range correction, brightness correction, RGB tone curve correction, backlight correction)
- Contrast correction, shadow contrast
- Tone correction (saturation correction, tone correction, gray-balance correction)
- Color cast correction (eliminating color cast, memory color correction)
